Code of Conduct

BSides St. Pete is a community event run by and for the security community. We are committed to providing a respectful, harassment-free experience for everyone, regardless of gender, identity, sexual orientation, age, disability, appearance, race, ethnicity, religion, or experience level.

This code applies to all participants, speakers, sponsors, volunteers, and organizers in every event space, social event, and online channel.

Be excellent

  • Treat everyone with respect, and respect their boundaries.
  • Welcome newcomers and share what you know.
  • Debate ideas, not people.

Not tolerated

  • Harassment, intimidation, stalking, or discriminatory language
  • Unwelcome physical contact or sexual attention
  • Photographing or recording people without their consent
  • Disrupting or heckling talks
  • Accessing or tampering with systems, networks, or devices without permission. Hack the challenges, not the venue.

Reporting

If you experience or witness a problem, tell any organizer or volunteer, or email daniel@bsidesstpete.com. In an emergency, call 911 first. Reports are handled confidentially, and retaliation against anyone who reports is a violation of this code.

Enforcement

If you are asked to stop, stop immediately. Organizers may issue a warning, remove someone from the event or online spaces without a refund, ban them from future events, or contact security or law enforcement.
